Γεννήθηκε στο χωριό ΚΑΤΩ ΚΛΕΙΝΑΙ της ΦΛΩΡΙΝΑΣ. Το πραγματικό του επώνυμο είναι Αποστολίδης και η καταγωγή του είναι Ποντιακή. Ξεκίνησε να τραγουδάει σε ηλικία 14 ετών, από την Φλώρινα, (κέντρο Μηλιές), σε ηλικία 16 ετών με ένα λαικό συγκρότημα που έφτιαξαν 5 άτομα. Έκανε περιοδείες σε όλες σχεδόν τις επαρχίες της Ελλάδος. Σε ηλικία 18 ετών έφτασε να έχει πολύ μεγάλο ρεπερτόριο τραγουδιών από ξένα-ελαφρά-Μοντέρνα-Λαικά-Δημοτικά-Ποντιακά, ως τότε τραγουδούσε με το όνομα "μικρός Γιαννάκης".

Το 1982, κάνει τον πρώτο του ποντικό δίσκο: "ΑΦΙΕΡΩΜΑ ΣΤΟΝ ΠΟΝΤΟ", με παλιά παραδοσιακά και νεοποντιακά τραγούδια και κάνει μεγάλει επιτυχία. Συνεχίζει με τον δίσκο: "ΠΟΝΤΙΑΚΑ ΤΟΥ ΧΤΕΣ ΚΑΙ ΤΟΥ ΣΗΜΕΡΑ", και ο τρίτος δίσκος διπλός: "ΠΟΝΤΙΑΚΟ ΞΕΦΑΝΤΩΜΑ", γίνεται αμέσως χρυσός, (πρώτη φορά στα χρονικά του ποντικού τραγουδιού)!!! Το 1985, κάνει μία βιντεοταινία με παραδοσιακά και άλλα, με διάφορα χορευτικά συγκροτήματα, με την ιστορία του Πόντου και της Παναγίας Σουμελά, είχε τίτλο: "ΑΠΟ ΤΟΝ ΠΟΝΤΟ ΜΕ ΑΓΑΠΗ" και ήταν τα πρώτα Ποντιακά videoclips, που βγήκαν στο εμπόριο. Το 1986, γράφει το Σενάριο της Πρώτης Ποντιακής Ταινίας, σε ποντιακή διάλεκτο, με τίτλο: "Ο ΤΣΟΠΑΝΟΝ", που έγινε μεγάλη επιτυχία, παντού ώπου υπήρχαν Έλληνες Πόντιοι, ειδικά στην Ρωσία συνέχισαν άλλες τέσσερις: "ΤΟ ΚΡΙΜΑΝ", "ΤΑ ΑΔΕΛΦΕΑ", "Ο ΔΕΣΚΑΛΟΝ", "Η ΞΕΝΗΤΙΑ".

Επίσης, έναν ποντιακό δίσκο με παραδοσιακά σε μοντερνους ρυθμούς -ΡΑΠ, ΛΑΤΙΝ, ΝΤΙΣΚΟ-με τίτλο: "ΠΟΝΤΙΑΚΟ ΠΑΡΤΥ", που από πολλούς πόντιους κατακρίθηκε. Επίσης ακόμα δύο βιντεοταινίες: "Η ΑΔΕΡΦΗ ΜΟΥ , Η ΤΡΕΛΟΠΟΝΤΙΑ" , "Ο ΤΡΑΓΟΥΔΙΣΤΗΣ ΚΑΙ ΤΟ ΚΟΡΙΤΣΙ ΤΟΥ ΜΠΑΡ" .

Giannis Floriniotis was born in the village of Kato Kline in Florina, Greece. His real surname is Apostolidis, and his background is Hellenic Pontian. He began singing at the age of fourteen, in Florina (at the Milies Club), and at the age of sixteen with a band composed of five members. He toured practically all of the districts and smaller cities of Greece. By the time he was eighteen, he had a huge repertoire of songs, including international, light, modern, laika, traditional demotic, and Pontian, and until then was performing as "little Johnny" (mikros Giannakis).

In 1982, he records his first Pontian album, "Dedicated to Pontos" (Afieroma ston Ponto), with traditional Pontian songs as well as newer songs, finding great success. He continues with the recordings "Pontian Songs of Yesterday and Today", and the next album is double, "Pontian Ball" (Pontiako Xefantoma) immediately becomes gold (a first for Pontian recordings). In 1985, he shoots a videotape with traditonal songs and others, with various Pontian dance groups, with the history of Pontos and Panagia Soumela, with the title "From Pontos with Love"; these were the first Pontian video clips that were introduced. In 1986, he writes the script of the first movie in the Pontian dialect, "The Shepherd". This became a great hit everywhere there lived Pontian Greeks, especially in the Soviet Union. Another four videos followed: "The Shame", "Brothers", "The Teacher", "Foreign Land".

Giannis Floriniotis also recorded an album with pontian traditional songs but modernizing them to modern beats (rap, latin, disco) and called it "Pontian Party", a recording that was dispraised by many Greek Pontians. He also recorded two more videotapes in the Greek language, "My sister, the crazy Pontian" and "The Singer and the Bar Girl". He recorded 14 albums, 10 Pontian albums, and a total of 10 videos.
